We hope that you are all fine, happy and still enjoying your last sailing weeks of this year with your friends, in the bays or bars. We have received e-mails from EMYR2008 Group 1 yachts that they will meet at Göcek at the beginning of October 2008 in Sarsala Bay for a party. Are there any other EMYR parties anywhere of the world that we are not informed yet? We are now working on a programme for EMYR2009 please e-mail your suggestions for tours, programme, visits etc. As you all have the experience of the EMYR Rally before. We want to make EMYR2009 special as this will be the 20th anniversary. Your committee work day and night to make EMYR2009 extremely good and unforgettable like in the song. You all know that EMYR 2009 is open to only past participants and although we will visit the same ports we wish to have different activities during our visits. We will discuss the programme and alternatives with you either when we meet you at the boat shows in Paris, London, Düsseldorf, Stockholm and Moscow or you can e mail us your suggestions. Turkey is still warm and sailing is still very pleasant. The hot weather in southern part of Turkey is finished and autumn brings us again beautiful sunny days and nice breezes with cooler nights. Your committee and organization team are spread apart from each other but work in harmony as always. Commodore Teoman Arsay is in İstanbul and is working hard to promote the educational programmes for amateur sailors and fighting with bureaucracy to make the amateur sailors life easier and happier. He says that he will be with the rally for the entire route in EMYR2009. Kath & Dave are settled in North Cyprus Girne and Dave is inviting every single EMYR friends to their house without warning Kath. Kath is still not divorcing him after 126 guests in one year. If you make a reservation, contact Dave (not Kath) by e-mail. davidmashona@hotmail.com Hasan says that he also works very hard to complete Alanya Marina till May 2009 and organize a big party for EMYR2009 arrival and inviting all the other sailors in Mediterranean Marinas and also he reports that Gazipaşa Marina will be operational by May 2010. He welcomes all cruising friends to visit Alanya that there will be no charge for berthing until the end of October and very attractive charges will be applied for the winter period till May 2009. Contact him by e-mail for further information. hasan@emyr.org Umut also is very busy with his new Pendik marina at İstanbul and already there are more than 40 boats using the facilities of this new beautiful marina. We know that many of you have not been to İstanbul by your boat yet so keep in mind to visit him for a memorable experience. umut@emyr.org Faruk & his wife Ceren have a new life at Göcek in their new house in a small farming village. He grows all their vegetables in the garden and the cow produces fresh milk every morning. They have a new private business in Göcek related to yacht services and the office is at Skopea Marina. info@idealservice.com.tr Geoff & Shirley are probably in Italy and might be in Turkey for the EMYR2009. Shirley might do car rally with Gönül ( Hasan’s wife) if there is no more war in the Middle East. The Rally Committee is monitoring the political situation in the Middle East as usual, and will make appropriate decisions to ensure the enjoyment of the Rally. We have received the positive reports for the safety from the EMYR Representatives in Syria, Lebanon and Israeli Marinas/Ports and they all are looking forward to welcoming the EMYR Yachts in their marinas. According to the news, Syria & Israel will have an agreement soon and Lebanon will be at peace. There are intensive talks in Cyprus Island between Greek & Turkish Cypriot communities and they are working (talking) hard to achieve a positive solution. Fadi & Jean Phillipe El Khazen, ATCL Club Management Board Members, were in Cyprus and Antalya and they have promised even better reception for EMYR2009. Azi Bilik, Carmel Club Commodore, was also in Antalya but Hasan missed meeting him by one day. He will be our special guest for his next visit. He is welcome to Girne or Alanya Marina any time he can. All is the same in Egypt, our dear friend, our brother, our school friend Nagib came to İstanbul and informed none of us. We hope that he had a great time with his business partners. In previous years we had a limit of 80 yachts due to the limited mooring capacities in the marinas that we will visit in Turkey, N. Cyprus, Syria, and Lebanon. We now have 104 yachts listed already the names are announced on the EMYR web site. According to our past years experiences we know that there will be some cancellation from the list. Therefore, if you are registered and find that you must cancel, please do so as soon as possible. Boats registering from now on will be placed on a waiting list. We have tried to send information to all the past years participants but some of the e-mail addresses were changed and it was not possible to inform all 1036 EMYR members. Some of them have already changed their sailing ground and now they are now cruising above the clouds and watching us. Some are retired from the cruising and enjoying their new life ashore. They are all welcome to join us at the big party at Alanya by the middle of May. Please make an announcement through your club magazine that EMYR will celebrate a special occasion in May next year and the entire EMYR members can visit EMYR web site for details. www.emyr.org The provisional EMYR2009 programme is attached and may be changed according to the replies from the marinas/ports or your suggestions. One thing is certain that EMYR2009 will be longer and harder! As you can see we have expanded the programme and along with escalating costs over the past two years we have no option than to raise the cost sharing fee to 400 euros. There will be an announcement for the payment time and method in the next newsletter. We are checking the prices of tours, entry fees/taxes and fuel of every country that we will visit. You may find the samples of the costs for 2008 on our web site but there will be many different tours as we have seen all those places and we all are looking for new adventures. Therefore, we will inform you of the latest information with our next newsletters. All new information will be posted on our website. You can visit the web site of the rally to find information about the rally, ports, tours, and articles written by past Rally participants. www.emyr.org the official website. The Rally Committee will be happy to respond to any of your questions. We would welcome your contributions to the memories section of the web site please e mail to info@emyr.org. INSURANCE: For you own benefit, it is wise to check with your yacht insurance agency about coverage in some of the Eastern Med countries since they may be on the company's list of 'war territories.' We recommend that you receive written confirmation from your insurance company that you are covered in these counties. Other participants have received approval by sending their company a letter of request for coverage explaining that we are a large group, that this is the 19th year for this rally. You can now e-mail the following information to the EMYR secretary. • Crew: There are NINE (9) overnight passages after Kemer. Do you have adequate crew? We realize that this is an ambitious schedule of passages and tours but necessary in order to not inconvenience the local fishing boats and yachts owners. Tired crew can lead to short tempers and intolerance and would defeat the purpose of the Rally. We have an experience that also unknown crew can be a problem. Take people you know very well and really get on very well as a crew. • Passport Information: Faruk Günlü, EMYR Secretary at Göcek has collected only some crew and passport information please can you fill in the online form in the web wage as soon as possible. Please inform him if there are any changes in your crew passports. • Shirt sizes: Please e-mail to EMYR Secretary with shirt sizes for crew (S, M, L, XL, XXL) if you are any bigger than this you need to go on a diet. Attached you will find the provisional programme for EMYR’2009. The programme can be changed by the EMYR committee members if necessary and the changed programme will be announced on the EMYR website. Please visit regularly for the latest information. The Committee members look forward to meeting you again in the Rally where you will be sure of a warm welcome with cold drinks. Until that day, we wish you good sailing for the rest of the season. If there are further questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail info@emyr.org. Our hope is for good weather, friendships, hospitality, and great experiences as we will make the 20th Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally a wonderful event for both the sailors and our hosts. We wish fair cruising and many Happy Hours. The Rally Committee, Umut Tepedelenlioğlu Faruk Günlü
