Our leaving of Ayvalık did not quite go to plan. After a reception organised from the marina maybe just maybe a little of the red wine was consumed.
We had thought a 4am departure would give us plenty of time to gently motor down the coast. No wind of any significance was forecast so it looked like a quiet day totting up the zzz’s and taking some sun.
Kim was charged with setting the alarm in this he failed miserably I awoke at 5ish to find the rest of the boats had gone, and still no Kim. I am sad to report that our crew not only slept in but failed to make crew call till 10.30.
For this he has been awarded the Mashona sleepyhead award.
It wasn’t a problem calm seas and variable winds made a pleasant start to the day and continued throughout, it picked up some in the afternoon and although we didn’t manage to switch the engine off completely we ran for a while on minimum rev’s.
Ednbal our antipodian boat left somewhat earlier than us and with the aid of the chute managed to sail most of the way.
Despite our late start we all arrived on schedule outside the marina.
Cesme as I think I told before is undergoing a major build programme and we had to enter as a group giving minimum disruption to the works at the marina mouth. Work is progressing at a rapid rate and we could see definite changes in only a couple of weeks. Jon is optimistic about the major renovation works being completed by the middle of June.
The weather today is very warm and shorts and T shirts are the dress order, somewhat of a change from our passage down from Istanbul.
We have met another three boats here in Cesme increasing our small fleet now to 10 boats.
Tonight we are organising a pot luck dinner here in marina it will be a chance for the new crews to get to know each other.
We have a Danish boat Mette Wuns and tow British boats Arwen and Limbara.
Cesme is a holiday resort mainly for Turkish tourists but has an increasing amount of European visitors.
