Marti Marina Orhaniye 6-7 May 2007

The passage from Bodrum was unspectacular with little or no wind so we sailed with the iron jib again.

The highlight of the day was avoiding a tug pulling a fish farm, much use of MARPA and AIS I was delighted to find that it did work.

Ivaylo and Michaela stopped for a swim three times far to cold yet for me I’ll wait till its 26 very hardy these Bulgarians.

Marti Marina is probably the most picturesque in Turkey set in the gulf of Hisarönü it is really a little jewel,

The water is clear and the pine clad sides of the valley give an air of tranquillity, this coupled with the strong aroma of bay and oregano make it truly a magic place.

Marti is fully serviced marina and has a remarkable deal at the moment for lifting.

Our attendant coastguard 302 also joined us here on the quay.

Tamer the captain has a pet Doberman complete with kennel unfortunately it has a liking for shoes some boats woke to find their shoes missing from outside the boat and the dog contented.

It was also good to meet up with old friends here especially Geoff & Shirley from three sheets and Tari from Vision who are fellow committee members.

Hasan & Faruk also joined us here for the evening having driven from Antalya & Göcek.

Paul and Karen Antigua lady last years participants had organised a bus from Marmaris to bring some of old EMYR people along good to see them.

We had a wonderful party with dancing singing thank you again Ercan and your staff for looking after us so well

Port Gocek 8-9 May 2007

Anybody who sails in Turkey are guaranteed to come to Gocek it has some of the best bays and anchorages to be found anywhere.

We were the guests of Port Gocek another 5 star marina we are really getting spoilt. Thank you to our rep Onur & General Manager İlkay to providing excellent facilities for cruisers.

Faruk our rally secretary has recently moved back here which is his family home so it was good to have some help organising things.

We did are own arrival procedure with the marina providing the joker boat it worked really well and nobody had to wait long.

We added another tour here to the ancient site of Kaunos and the Dalyan river complete with mud baths so whilst Faruk took the tour off I did the million and one things that needs to be done when we are in port.

We really are a big group now 43 boats.

We had another superb cocktail party Dee from Ocean Song and Saygın and Kamuran from Tay doing the presentations.

It was a last goodbye to Coast Guard cutter 302 so we sent them off with a rally burgee to fly.

With a mixed weather forecast we planned an early start for our passage to Kekova.

Kekova – Üçağız 10 May 2007

It rained

This weather is not usual for Turkey at this time of the year but at least it made our Team New Zealand feel at home I never realised it rained as much in Auckland.

Kekova is our only anchorage on the rally and is a safe secure place in all weathers although I have known it to blow 50knts in there.

We had our usual cocktail made by Umut the rally co coordinator or the terminator as I prefer to call him and Hakan our Kekova Representative.

We started the dancing with a display of traditional Turkish folk dancing we were very impressed.

That was followed by people splitting up and eating in the many fine restaurants along the quay side.

Hakan our representative here has organised this morning a trip to the castle and a glass bottomed boat trip to the submerged ancient city.

We have left early to sort out our entry into Finike.
